Good morning from New Godruma Dhama where it is 9am and already feeling warm with a sky tinged with blue. Looks like it might be another hot one.
Late yesterday afternoon, Sunday, we heard thunder in the distance, the skies went grey and the wind picked up. Just a few drops of rain appeared before it passed us by and the sun returned. It cleared the air for a short time though and the short lived breeze was a welcome relief.
Also yesterday, we lost Sarah and Mel, two of our volunteers who have gone to pastures new. I believe they`ve headed to Kuala Lumpur for a few days before moving on to projects in other parts of Malaysia. I will miss them and their delicious cakes cooked in the rise cooker. We had a new arrival though, a lady friend and fellow traveler of Joeri`s from Belgium.
Gopesa, the farm manager here, very kindly took me what must have been at least a 40 mile journey over to see a Doctor on Sunday evening as he`d read on my last blog about the problem with my left foot. (And about the problem with the water filter which he`s arranging to be repaired). Although it was a little embarrassing taking off my sock to reveal a yellow coloured foot, the doctor didn`t flinch when I told him I`d been soaking it in a turmeric, ginger and garlic concoction the previous day. He was a charming young Malaysian Doctor, his clinic was immaculate and looked to me to be very well run. I hobbled out of his surgery with a course of antibiotics, a course of pills to bring down the swelling , anti histamines to stop the itching and a large tub of insect repellent. I offered but no one would take any money off me. I think it may be on His Supreme Grace Lord Krishna`s account. ...Hari Krishna.
Talking of which, I`ve managed to get though a number of books here about the introduction of Hari Krishna to the Western world, starting in the U.S. in the mid 1960`s and the subsequent forming of Iskcon, so I should be an expert on the subject pretty soon.
This morning, although my foot is still swollen, the pain has now vanished and I can comfortably walk on it again. Which is just as well because this afternoon I `m looking forward to begin a trip with my friend Simweshara to Penang in Northern Malaysia to make a video about the new Krishna Temple which officially opens in the city in August.
