Over the past couple of months I`ve received many emails from projects throughout south east Asia but now it`s decision time. I am now beginning to work on my itinerary.
One of the main aims of my Lovely Planet project is to produce travel video`s from my adventures overseas and to somehow use these travel video`s as one of the sources of income to enable me to continue the journey.
This week, as we head towards the final week of October, a step closer to my Lovely Planet adventure as I`ve managed to secure a part time, temporary job. Depending on when in the early part of the new year I can get away,
I recently had a message from a friend, Jule, who runs a very successful touring pantomime company. She was keen to help me in my quest to raise funds for my Lovely Planet Project and suggested that if I could find a venue I could put on a performance of her companies Christmas Panto.
The other amazing thing was the date she offered me. December 17, just eight days before Christmas! What an ideal time for a Family Christmas Party. So, I set to work organising the event. It so happens that a couple of weeks previousy I had met with and written a little piece for my facebook page about the new management of a local pub with a rather large function room. Isn`t it just marvellous when things come together like that? Thank you so much Jules :-)
Breaking News.... 'Paaaarty at the Panto'
This Christmas why not bring the children along to a fabulous family Christmas party and join the superb cast of Actone Productions as they thrill and excite the audience, young and old, with their excellent version of the classic pantomime, Robin Hood.
Following the hour long performance maybe your child will be lucky enough to take home Robin`s Bow & Arrow or Maid Marian`s Tiara in a special Christmas raffle? And don`t forget to bring your phone or camera along as there`ll be plenty of photo opportunities to capture the kids with the panto stars or even with the classic Disney characters who`re coming along from Meet my mascot parties & events.
But that`s not all! Performances from the wonderfully talented vocalists Latoya B and Oli Patto (OliPattoOfficial) will make the party go with a swing.
And what Christmas party would be complete without an appearance from the man from the North Pole? Yes, Santa himself will be there. And he`s even bringing along treats for all the children too.
There`s face painting, free sweets, a disco. Oh, and a bar for the grown up`s too! Well, it is Christmas after all.
The venue? Upstairs in the function room at Busters Darlington on Yarm Road, now under the new management of Del and Andy who are committed to running a pub for the whole family.
The date? Wednesday 17 December 2014. The fun starts at 4pm. and tickets, just £2.50 will be available soon.
Here`s a fabuous idea to help fund your travels as you navigate the globe. As long as you have access to an internet connection of course! Work as a freelance travel writer, video film maker, virtual assistant or any...
14 great reasons (not in any particular order) why I`m going on an adventure in 2015...
You may be wondering how I, with little money to my name and no savings, can afford to travel and live oversees. The answer lay in the projects I`ve volunteered to assist, the fact that I have a rental property here in the UK and the opportunity to earn a small income from travel writing and film making.
Firstly, the projects I`ve volunteered to assist all offer basic accommodation and food in return for a few hours work each day, usually around 5 hours for up to 5 days each week but sometimes much less. Bearing in mind that the countries I`ll be visiting have a much lower cost of living than here in the UK, the small amount of money I`ll have left from the rental of my apartment after paying the mortgage, service charge and contingency for repairs, should certainly be enough to live on. For instance, the average monthly wage in rural Thailand, away from the touristy cities, is under £200. I`ll have around £100 each month from my apartment. Taking into consideration that I`ll have no accommodation or main meals to pay for, I`m sure £100 a month will be sufficient. However, there are also many opportunities to earn fees freelancing on the internet as a travel writer and video film maker. There`s also the possibility to monetise this blog site too with affiliate links, sponsorships and maybe even donations but that`ll take time as with most online ventures.
As far as I`m concerned, the only money I`m going to need in advance of my project is the airfare (with an open return) a new passport (as my previous one had to be cancelled as it was stolen) visa, insurance and updates to my technical equipment. I`m looking at around £1200. Once I have that, I`ll be outa here.
Below is my profile which is attracting offers form abroad through www.workaway.info
Hi, I`m Peter and I currently live in Darlington in North East England.
Mature, reliable, fun, that`s me!
I`m a friendly, easy going, easy to get on with 'people person' with an enquiring mind. Excellent at hospitality, customer service, am computer literate with IT experience, a little teach English experience and a desire to travel and give something to others through volunteering .
In 2015 I will reach my 60th birthday and am happy to report I`m fit and healthy and still very young at heart.
I have decided that for my 60th year I will begin a new life adventure! I feel somewhat disillusioned with life here. I have always loved travel, meeting new friends and experiencing different cultures whilst holidaying abroad.
I also like to document my experiences in far away places through video documentary making and feel that now is the right time to further explore other cultures and further document these experiences through my film making.
I would like to teach English too and have a little experience of this and can also perform hospitality duties, organising and hosting fun activities, tour guiding. And I`m not afraid to get stuck in, get my hands dirty, if the project requires this. I have no problem with physical or manual work! I`m spiritually orientated, a lover of nature and have an open mind.

My current role involves producing local community video`s (news reports and events) mainly on a voluntary basis and a few paid business web video`s. Together with a business colleague we have developed a hyperlocal website: www.buzztv.biz
Buzz TV is Darlington & Aycliffe`s online Community TV Channel.
Here is a list of my skills from the creative to the everyday stuff. I am prepared to do all or any of these things and more ...
Helping with Tourists
Organising and Hosting Events
Cooking / Shopping
Help with Computers/Internet/Websites/Social Media/Online Marketing/Answering Emails
Documentary / Film Making /Video Production/ Radio Production
Research /Writing / Journalism
What else ...My interests, skills and experience also include ICT work with the emphisis on the 'C' for Communication. (I have a knowledge of computers, website building, social media strategy - particularly Facebook and You Tube - filmaking , podcasting, webcasting).
To travel, to meet new people, to learn, to discover new experiences, to explore new cultures, to document thru filmaking primarily for the web, to help through volunteering, to broaden my horizons. An opportunity to really discover how other people live, their philosophies. A journey of learning and discovery.
The other thing is, although I run my own business, it mainly consists of voluntary work and my income is very low. So, why not do what I`m doing now but in other, less developed countries around the world, thereby helping others, travelling, learning and broadening my horizons all at the same time. And making new friends. In fact, the positives of all this are many.
Note on my availability:
Initially from early in 2015 until whenever. I`d prefer to help for at least two months with any project. After that, I may wish to extend my stay (if this is possible) or move on to another workaway project.
Here is my ideal scenario... but I`m very open to other projects with different requirements.
A new or expanding, forward thinking tourism business (hotel/hostel/travel agency) who need help in house and out, with English language, with tourists and with online marketing. I would help develop the website and social media and answer emails. Offer English language practice and translation to staff, tourists and guests. Organise and host fun activities and act as a tour guide. Help create exciting and fun image of the business and the location through video for the web. Help on reception, greeting guests and serving drinks behind the bar. Generally be a point of contact for guests/tourists to ensure they have an enjoyable experience. General maintenance, keeping place clean and tidy. Other occasional work as required.
Video Blog - 'West Meets East'
First published on facebook on September 29, 2014 at 8:35pm
Introducing my forthcoming Weekly Video Blog 'West meets East' coming soon!
Greed, materialism, pollution of our planet... Many of us are beginning to realise that something is not quite right here, in our, quite frankly, cosy western world.
Is there a better way?
They may be materially poorer. They may have a harder life and deeper struggles. But are the peoples of the third world happier than us? Have we forgotten something important? Can we learn something from other cultures far, far, away?
Come along with me on my journey across the globe and meet my new friends in third world countries on the other side of the world. And let`s explore these questions together. And I`m not going on the tourist trail. I`ll be going deep into the real heart of real communities!
What we`ll talk about, what we`ll see and what we`ll learn...
First hand experiences of everyday life and work. Culture, religion and philosophy, work ethic, education, health matters, history, nature, sustainability, eco projects and much more.
Talking heads interlaced with scenes of everyday life in the third world. From the exotic to the plain. From the exciting to the mundane. And all in between.
You`ll also learn about HOW I did it (with little money) and WHY I did it at 60 years old, (But I can`t tell you that until I go) :)))))
I admit, this kind of video blog won`t appeal to everyone. But I do know the kind of friends I have on here, and others yet to join, who it will appeal to. If that sound like you, please visit, like and share www.facebook.com/lovelyplanettv (a dedicated website on its way soon) ...Our journey begins in early 2015.
'West Meets East' the Video Blog will be available to view at www.facebook.com/lovelyplanettv and on my forthcoming website.
My plea for a job to raise funds for my project
Job Wanted! Pubs / Retail / Anything Considered
First published on facebook: September 18, 2014 at 6:58pm
I am looking for a temporary job from now until early January 2015. Please can you help?
Why I need a job... I wish to earn an income to help raise the necessary funds to enable me to realise a particularly special and important project of a humanitarian nature. Please, therefore, could I ask that you spare just a couple of minutes of your time to read the project details below, where you will discover this is not a standard job application.
I am a co founder of Buzz TV - Darlington & Aycliffe's online Community TV Channel. We produce local community news reports, local event video`s and occasionally business web videos. Mostly this is voluntary work and can be achieved part time. I now need to suppliment the small income I receive from this work. You may wish to take a look at what we do by visiting our website here: www.buzztv.biz or/and our facebook page:www.facebook.com/buzztvdarlington
Next year I will celebrate my 60th birthday and as such wish to do something adventurous yet charitable to mark the occasion. So, in January 2015 I am heading to South East Asia for at least 2 months to produce films about the work of worthwhile charities and non profit organisations operating in the third world and about the different cultures I meet. The oganisations/projects will provide my accomodation and meals. Expenses and weekly income while I`m working with a project are also taken care of.
Depending on my commitments to Buzz TV, which in turn are dependent on the success of a recent funding application, I may stay longer than 2 months and travel around South East Asia and other developing counties for up to a year working with many different projects. In many places, other than film making, I will also be working on different tasks depending on the projects requirements. The individual projects I am in contact with range from local tourism to health and education, from local conservation to the welfare of children, the elderly and the disabled, from teaching English to IT work and from general maintenance to food preperation and all in between. It is, as I`m sure you`ll realise, a personal journey of discovery whilst being able to help others less fortunate.
